DESIGN & BUILD

A GENERAL OVERVIEW OF BEGINNING THE DESIGN & BUILDING PROCESS
SCOPE OF PROJECT
-
Are you planning on building:
- A full home?
-
An outbuilding? (barn, garage, sauna, etc.)
-
An open-air structure? (gazebo, carport, etc.)
-
An addition or remodel?
-
What is the size of the project?
1.
DESIGN
-
When the scope of project is established, beginning the design process is next. Your options for these next steps in the design process are:
-
Working with ChiselCraft's collaborating designer, Armstead Feland V Residential Design to get your preliminary plans in place.
-
You may chose your own preferred designer. ChiselCraft will use your preliminary drawings done by a designer of your choice.
-
2.
When these preliminary plans are finalized, we will provide you with a free estimated cost of your project.
3.
If the estimated cost is agreeable to you, a Pre-Construction Contract is signed between you and ChiselCraft.
4.
THE PRE-CONSTRUCTION PROCESS
-
This is when we get to turn your preliminary drawings into your working plans.
-
This is also the time when the entire project details, such as wood used or tiles desired need to be decided. A lot of communication, networking, research and planning go into this part of the process.
-
The final step in the Pre-Construction Process is providing you with the total project cost. After all project details have been discussed and decided upon, ChiselCraft will be able to more accurately calculate what total project cost will be.
5.
When a total project price is agreed upon, a Builders Contract is drafted up and signed between you and ChiselCraft Timberframe, Inc.
6.
The building timeline and process begins!
7.
TOGETHER WE CAN CREATE A MORE EFFICIENT AND SMOOTH DESIGN & BUILDING PROCESS THROUGH:
-
Transparency. The more you share with us about your honest wishes, ideas and concerns for the project, the better we can understand how to meet your design and building needs. In turn, we commit to being transparent with you throughout the design and building process.
-
Sharing your budget and communicating your limits. When we know these we can work with you to find the building materials and details that you can afford. It is also important that you are willing to compromise some wishes/desires to stay within your budget, if it is needed.
-
Trust & Patience. We are committed to your project and building a relationship with you and your family. The more trusting, respectful and kind we are of eachother and patience in the design and building process, the more positive and successful of an experience it will be.
-
Good communication. Responding to phone calls/texts/emails in a respective timely fashion, frequent check-ins/site visits.
THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF DRAWINGS/PLANS FOR A PROJECT:
1. Concept Drawing: An image of the structure, showing the general shape and outline, without any measurements.
2. Preliminary Drawings: A drawing that has elevation images, floor plan and basic measurements.
3. Working Drawings: Drawings that show 4 elevation shots, floor plans, foundation drawings, wiring/plumbing details, window/door schedule, detailed measurements and all associated details.
